Many, including myself, were overly confident that Hillary Clinton was going to be elected as the first female President. This was the first election I was able to vote in, and I was particularly excited and honored to be a part of a special election that would make history. The disappointment and heartache I faced when Trump was elected as President, is something I will remember and carry with me for the rest of my life. I thought I was doing my part in this election. I would read the news, watch the debates, and share articles and video clips that would expose Trump for who he truly was. Moving forward, I will learn from this election and take with me the importance of voting; not only is it vital to cast my own vote, but I need to do everything in my power to encourage others to vote as well. I truly believe in my heart that if Americans knew what the outcome was going to be previous to election day, that people would have acted more urgently and Hillary would be in office now. Americans did not have enough motivation nor did they have adequate awareness of the severity of the situation at hand.
